Job Loss & Reinvention with Lynn Unger
If you’ve tuned in to our first episode, you’ll know that this podcast was born from my personal experience with job loss. Earlier this year, in early 2024, the company I was working for went through a major restructuring and, like hundreds of others, my position was eliminated. As part of that process, I was offered “transition services,” which included working with a career counselor. I figured it couldn’t hurt—and that’s how I met Lynn Unger, the counselor who helped me navigate this unexpected turn in my career.
Amie and I thought it would be fitting to kick off our podcast with a conversation about job loss and career transitions, featuring none other than Lynn herself.
Lynn has spent the past eight years helping people through career transitions after a long career in sales management. What really stood out to me about Lynn was her genuine care for the psychological journey, not just the professional one—a perspective shaped by her own experience with job loss.
In this episode, Lynn shares her personal story, along with powerful lessons on resilience, reinvention, and how to move forward after a setback. We’ll also dive into some common mistakes people make during career transitions and what to keep in mind if you find yourself facing the same challenge.
